AGRICULTURE

  • 9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th Grades

    1 Credit (2 semesters)

    This is a course designed for the instruction of the basics of agriculture and includes but is not limited to Animal Science, Basic Agriculture Mechanics, Careers, Leadership, Supervised Agriculture Experience, FFA, and Food Science.

  • 9th, 10th, 11th, & 12th Grades

    1 Credit (2 semesters)

    This is a course designed for the instruction of the basics of agriculture and includes but is not limited to Plant Science, Basic Agriculture Mechanics, Careers, Leadership, Supervised Agriculture Experience, FFA, and Food Science.

  • 10th, 11th, & 12th Grades         

    1 Credit (2 semesters)

    *Prerequisite: Ag. Science I

    This course is designed for instruction in plant and crop science, soils, entomology, horticulture, agriculture mechanics and/or careers, leadership, and supervised agricultural experiences. This class is a prerequisite for Agriculture Mechanics/ Construction and Greenhouse Operation and Management

  • 11th & 12th Grades                                             

    1 Credit (2 semesters)

    *Prerequisite:  Ag. Science I and II

    *Fee: $45 is required to cover material used for shop supplies and safety equipment. All students in this class are required to build a project. Projects range in cost from $200-$2,000.

    This course utilizes welding to develop and construct major metal and woodshop projects. This class cannot be used to earn a science credit.

    *Prerequisite: Ag. Science I and II

    This course develops a basic understanding of greenhouse techniques.  The production of greenhouse crops will be used to demonstrate procedures such as plants starting from cuttings, seeds, grafts, and layering.  Students will manage their own crops as a greenhouse project and work on the greenhouse sale in the spring.

    This course is designed for instruction in food science, food safety, food preparation, and preservation. Students will have the opportunity to smoke a ham for the FFA Competition as well as further processing of meat products.

    This course is designed for instruction in agriculture economics, with emphasis on business management, specifically how it relates to the farm.

    This course is designed for instruction in advanced plant science, weed, and crop ID (seed and plant) soil management practices. As well as pest management solutions.

    This course is designed for instruction in floral identification, floral arrangements as wells as greenhouse management practices.

  • 10th, 11th, & 12th Grade

    Prerequisite: Ag. Science I

    This course gives students a more in-depth understanding of animal science. Students will have a basic understanding of reproduction, nutrition, and other animal care needs. This course prepares students to work on the academy farm as Juniors and Seniors.

  •  Offered every other year as part of the Youth Agriculture Academy

    11th & 12th Grades                                             

    1 Credit (2 semesters)

    *Prerequisite:  Ag. Science I and Animal Science

    *Personal Finance & math credit available for Juniors*

    *Dual Credit Available through Missouri State University, MUST HAVE GPA ABOVE 3.0

    Human relations, personal inventory, careers in selling, and other experiences necessary for employment in agribusiness engaged in marketing, purchasing and storing, grading, and transporting supplies and products will be covered. This class cannot be used to earn a science credit. This course is part of a three-hour block combined with Advanced Animal Science and Ag. COOP.

  •  Offered every other year as part of the Youth Agriculture Academy

    11th & 12th Grades

    1 Credit (2 semesters)

    *Prerequisite: Ag. Science I and Animal Science  

    *Dual Credit Available through Missouri State University, MUST HAVE GPA ABOVE 3.0

    Advanced study in animal production, management, marketing, nutrition, breeding, production records, selection, animal health, waste management, and biotechnology may be included in this course. This course is part of a three-hour block course that combines agribusiness and Ag. COOP.

  •  Offered every other year as part of the Youth Agriculture Academy

    11th & 12th Grades

    1 Credit (2 semesters)

    *Prerequisite: Ag. Science I and Animal Science  

    *Dual Credit Available through Missouri State University, MUST HAVE GPA ABOVE 3.0

    This course will provide a more in-depth understanding of real-life animal care. Students will work on the Ag Youth Academy animals and study their care. Students will also work closely with a veterinarian to learn the health and care of animals. This course is part of a three-hour block combined with Agriculture Sales and Ag. COOP.

  • Offered every other year as part of the Show Me Youth Agriculture Academy.

    11th & 12th Grades

    1 Credit (2 semesters)

    *Prerequisite: Ag. Science I and Animal Science  

    *Dual Credit Available through Missouri State University, MUST HAVE GPA ABOVE 3.0

    Students will work with Ag Youth Academy and real business partners in the marketing and selling of livestock products produced on the farm. This course is part of a three-hour block combined with Veterinary Technology and Ag. COOP.

  • Offered every other year as part of the Show Me Youth Agriculture Academy

    11th & 12th Grades

    1 Credit (2 semesters)

    *Prerequisite: Ag. Science I and Animal Science  

    *Dual Credit Available through Missouri State University, MUST HAVE GPA ABOVE 3.0

    Students will work with Ag Youth Academy and real business partners in the marketing and selling of livestock products produced on the farm. This will include direct working hours associated with the Youth Agriculture Academy. This course is mandated yearly for instruction in the Youth Ag. Academy.

  • The Show Me Youth Agriculture Academy provides students a unique opportunity to learn about beef production, economics, sales and marketing, and all skills necessary to run a complete beef agribusiness. Students will get a real-world hands-on experience of an actual beef production facility. Students will work with various industry leaders, multiple business investors, and consumers. This will require some time commitment outside of school hours.

  • All students enrolled in an agricultural education class are required to join FFA. Dues are $25.00, including T-Shirt. Students can earn their Speech credit if they participate in FFA speech activities and are dues-paying members for 3 years. In order for the FFA Speeches to count, they must be completed by the end of the student's junior year. Students can also earn science credit by taking 3 courses in Agriculture, not counting ag construction, Agribusiness, and Ag Sales and Marketing.
