TECHNICAL ENGLISH

  • During our time together, we will create resumes and introductory letters, practice interview skills, write articles, work applications for scholarships or jobs, and practice other program-related communication skills. We will research careers, colleges, or trade schools and discuss important life skills. You will be expected to complete online assignments outside of class. These assignments will vary and change or adapt as needed to best prepare you for success after high school. We will practice listening to others as well as learning to express ourselves cordially. I expect updates on what you are doing to achieve your goals in your program and life. I will assist you as needed. If you need help or have questions, please  schedule a time to come see me on my appointment calendar, email me, or contact me through remind.

  • Follow the link or type in the bolded class code in Google Classroom after clicking the + (Join Class) in the upper-right corner of Google Classroom.

ALL students should be logged in to their @gm.lamar.k12.mo.us email when they join the class.

Plan to attend as many sessions as you would like. I recommend at least 1 month before and another on the Saturday before the ACT, 9:30 am-3 pm, or after school for up to 1.5 hours, Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday, 3:30-5:15 pm. Every session starts with Reading, which is the foundation for all ACT sections. Math is second, English is last. Those taking science will practice after the reading on Tuesdays or at the end of the day on Saturdays.

College & Career Planning Resources

I add to this as I find helpful pages. Links for FAFSA, College Scholarships, Job Search pages, Paid Apprenticeships, Technical Schools, Military options information, and more to explore.

If you are not sure what you want to do, BigFuture by College Board and Journey to College are free online planning platforms that guide students in exploring careers, planning for college, and finding ways to pay for it. Some of these sites require you to create an account. All future pursuits, including career and college accounts, should be created with a personal professional email.
